If you are like many beginner artists you are very likely finding yourself making minimal progress and finding painting to be more of an exercise in frustration than joy.
The problem is that without a solid foundation you simply will not know how to proceed. Often the beginner artist repeats the same mistakes over and over. Painting should be a joyous voyage of discovery.
The other issue is that the beginning artist will strive to merely imitate a photograph in paint. This, of course, makes no sense. Painting is by far the superior art that has its own language whether it be realist or abstract ... the language of color, composition, rhythm and the brush strokes which is where you develop your unique personal expression.
